Eco-friendly Christmas Cards

Making your own recycled Christmas cards is a great way to save money, be eco-friendly and show friends and family how much they mean to you. (Just don’t be surprised if your kids get in on the act. Making cards is a great DIY project for kids as young as three.)

To make extremely environmentally friendly holiday cards, you’ll need to find cereal boxes, junk mail envelopes and magazine pages. Add glue and scissors to your supply list. Look around your house for embellishment ideas, like stray buttons and soda can tabs.

  • De-assemble the cereal boxes. You’ll be able to get two large or four large pieces of “cardstock” from each cereal box.
  • Fold your cereal box rectangle in half with the printed side out. Crease the fold with the side of a pen to make it smooth.
  • Cover the card with scrap paper to create a background for your design.
  • Now, cut design elements out of other scraps and glue them down.
  • Finish the card with some of the embellishments you collected.
